Meet Jenni and her family

Interior architect and creative designer Jenni Leikas lives with her husband Ville, and their two daughters, three-year-old Ellie and one-year-old Lilian, in the heart of Helsinki, surrounded by the charm of a historic Art Nouveau neighbourhood by the sea. Their home reflects the same sense of calm and considered beauty that defines both her work and her approach to family life.

Their everyday rhythm is intentionally gentle, shaped by early mornings, familiar routines, and a desire to create space for presence. There is a quiet balance between family life and creativity, where neither feels rushed or compromised. “Our everyday life is a gentle balance between family time and a calm, mindful lifestyle,” Jenni explains. “Mornings begin early with the children, a cup of coffee, and routines that help us ease into the day peacefully.” At the core of their home life are values of togetherness, kindness, and simplicity—principles that subtly guide everything from daily habits to design choices.

A PEACEFUL ATMOSPHERE IS UNFOLDING NATURALLY.

That philosophy becomes especially clear in the children’s room, where atmosphere takes priority over aesthetics alone. Rather than filling the space, Jenni focuses on creating a sense of calm. Soft, neutral tones and natural materials form the foundation, creating a timeless, serene atmosphere that remains inviting to play and imagination. “I want the space to feel warm and safe, but also leave room for creativity,” she says. Her appreciation for antiques and craftsmanship is evident here as well, with carefully chosen pieces that reflect the same thoughtful approach as the rest of the home.

Playtime, however, remains refreshingly simple. Ellie gravitates toward dolls, books, and soft toys, often immersed in imaginative role play and costumes, while Lilian is already following closely behind. There is a shared joy in small, familiar objects—proof that children rarely need excess to feel inspired.

Functionality is just as important when it comes to furniture. Jenni favours timeless, well-made pieces—particularly in wood—that can withstand everyday life and evolve alongside the children. Adaptability plays a key role; Ellie’s current bed, for instance, can later be transformed into a bunk bed when Lilian is ready to share the room. “It’s important that the furniture grows with the children,” Jenni notes, emphasising longevity over trends.
